The proposed health centre will replace the existing surgery on Graham Road and will provide pharmacy and 12,500 sqft Health centre including GP, midwife and other consultations rooms with a further 36,500 sqft of further clinical use and commercial accommodation on the upper three floors
The Brief
The Graham Road Surgery (WSM) is moving from its existing site, which is no longer able to accommodate the functional requirements of the users and meet modern standards such as the Equality Act (formally DDA).
17 other sites within the town centre were investigated and in June 2020, the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)/NHS selected the proposed development at Weston-super-Mare Rugby Club as the preferred site for the new Weston Central General Practice Surgery, a location which would best serve the needs of the community.
Our Approach
The design is in direct response to the clinical planning requirements of the health centre; it is organised around a central spine of support services with clinical rooms to the perimeter taking advantage of natural ventilation and daylight.
The key entrance spaces, waiting rooms and commercial space (a Pharmacy) have been designed to allow the upper floor levels to be as flexible as possible. The pharmacy, although adjacent to the clinical function is not considered part of the Health Centre development. It will be finished to shell and core standard for fitting out by others.
The height of the building, at five storeys provides a massing which will compliment the future masterplan of Station Gateway as well as the remainder of the residential masterplan surrounding the rugby pitch.
